INNOVATIVE DRAWING WORKSHOPS BY HARRY POTTER ARTIST CLIFF WRIGHT

The workshops will demonstrate how I draw. Through experience and teaching I have come to realise that the true nature of drawing is not some mysterious gift bestowed upon a select few. The potential for creativity is within us all. Exercises are designed to take the fear out of drawing - especially if you are a beginner - drawing can be relaxing, fun and a magical journey of self-discovery. It will also enable you to see the world around you more vividly, as if for the first time.

Natural environments have the capacity to slow down the thinking process and allow the intuitive response. By tuning into the living world through focused attention, we can find the space to overcome limitations, both mental and physical.

Drawing is about yourself, rather than a comparison with anyone else. The workshop atmosphere is informal, light-hearted and non-competitive. There will be plenty of opportunity to receive feedback about your work and to ask questions as group numbers are kept small. Responding to your needs as they arise, the sessions run as spontaneously as possible, making them all different!

Drawing is a universal language, it transcends barriers and penetrates to the core of our understanding of who we truly are, and thus can also help those with learning difficulties and disabilities.

Nature of Drawing workshops provide a safe place to practice those abilities you never knew you had! Nature of Seeing workshops take us further along the path of self-discovery. Although still drawing-based, they will explore other ways to create the conditions necessary for the creative process to flow.

THE MAGIC OF DRAWING
Cliff's new book, published by David and Charles, is now available! Bother your local book-shop, go to Amazon or contact Cliff if you're interested - or attend of the workshops listed below where Cliff will be selling signed copies.

'This is a rare treat, because it’s not often you get a book on drawing by someone who is themselves a successful published illustrator. Cliff Wright’s biggest claim to fame is a couple of Harry Potter covers (and you can bet the competition for those is pretty stiff), but he has also written some delightful children’s books himself such as 'Bear and Kite' and 'The Star That Fell' that are characterised by beautiful and sensitive watercolours that stop well short of being cutesy.
What this almost modest-looking paperback offers is a positive masterclass in drawing animals, people and natural history subjects, albeit slightly dressed-up as fantasy art. Cliff conveys more in a few words and drawings than many books don’t even manage in a whole chapter and this is a thoroughly practical guide as well as an absolute eye-opener to the many possibilities available to you. There’s also a good degree of humour - I just love the drawing of a Hippogriff wrapped in a blanket against the snow - and the spread where a self portrait turns into a horse eating a cake (yes, really) is in fact a masterpiece of character development and the use of line.
If you’re an aspiring illustrator, this has to be compulsory reading, but there’s so much more to it as well. It’ll show you how to develop characters, how to draw with absolute economy and how to work from life to art.'
